No one likes slow websites

We've all experienced a slow loading website, especially on mobile devices. Website performance is a complicated art and a science.

In this article we explain the core concepts of what factors influence your websites loading speed and what are the steps you can do to speed up your website.

First let's look at some statistics...

Here's the facts

1 second - 3 seconds

The probability of a user hitting the back button (bounce) increases to 32%

1 second - 5 seconds

The probability of a user hitting the back button (bounce) increases to 90%

1 second - 6 seconds

The probability of a user hitting the back button (bounce) increases to 106%

1 second - 10 seconds

The probability of a user hitting the back button (bounce) increases to 123%

The statistics above came from a Google study where a computer model was created to simulate user interactions based on data gathered from 11 million landing pages. Google trained a deep neural network modeled on the human brain and nervious system using a large dataset of bounce and conversion data. Google claim the neural net has a prediction accuracy of 90%.

The results it generated was facinating. A website that loads between 1 and 10 seconds had the probability of a user leaving the website increase by 123%. It also predicted that as the number of element on the website increated from 400 elements to 6000 elements, the probability of a website visitor converting to a sale or enquiry dropped by 95%.
